“M” (1931). Cinema program

Place Contemporary Art Center,

Another example of expressionist cinema is the ingenious Frica Lang thriller “M” (1931) with the unforgettable Peter Lorri in the lead role. “M” is Lang’s first sound film, in which the musical leitmotif plays as strongly as the increase in visual tension. Another example of sound tension in a film is the silence in the shots before the sudden noise. Lang uses both the commentary behind-the-scenes voice, the sounds that motivate the action of the film’s characters, and the sounds that are not in the frame room
