Friedrich Wilhelm Murnav’s romantic drama “Sunrise: A Song of Two” (1927) is a vivid example of expressionist cinema and one of the first films to be accompanied by a sound effects and musical accompaniment track; true, the few dialogues are still shaped like subtitles. The play of the actors in the film undoubtedly corresponds to the techniques of silent cinema, which is why it is so interesting to watch it play with the active sonic accompaniment.
