JCE Jeune Création Européenne: contemporary Art Biennale. Travelling exhibition

Place Science, Art and Gastronomy Centre “Brewery”, Lenču iela 9/11

29.06.2018 - 29.07.2018

The travelling exhibition of the Contemporary Art Biennale JCE. Jeune Création Européenne gathers together 56 up-and-coming contemporary artists from 7 European Countries – France, Portugal, Latvia, Denmark, Romania, Spain, Italy. Through various art forms and medias, the exhibition displays the latest trends of European art scene, arising the questions– Is art universal? Is there such a thing as European art?  Are artists as different from one country to the next as the countries’ respective histories suggest?

JCE Biennale was developed in 2000 by the Montrouge Municipality, Paris. It is above all a network linking different European cities concerned with promoting the work of their country’s young artists, as well as allowing the artists’ cultural actions to be known beyond their borders. Once the artworks of each country have been assembled, the JCE Biennale takes the shape of a large travelling collective exhibit which lies down in each of the partner cities over the course of two consecutive years. The Science, Art and Gastronomy Center “Brewery” will be the third stop of the JCE Biennale 2017 – 2019 travelling exhibition. Afterwards, it will continue its journey to Cluj-Napoca in Romania.

The travelling exhibition is a part of the Latvia 100 years independence anniversary. Latvian participation in the JCE Jeune Création Européenne: contemporary Art Biennale project is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, as a part of the programme “Latvia-100”, Cēsis Municipality, and ABLV Charitable Foundation.
